New Flute

Post by nix »

I've finally bought myself a new flute after months of deciding. I've got a Yamaha 311 with a gold lip plate. It sounds lovely, I now feel like I'm holding back the flute rather than it holding me back. Plus it was a bargin only £565 (if anyone wants the shop name let me know).
Practice is really fun again

Yeah! I'm curious, does the gold lip plate leave anything on your chin? LOL

Nope, just sounds nice? It seems to clean quicker than the silver!

If I am not mistaken, the 'black mark' on the chin comes from the residue that treated polishing cloths leave on the silver. Then, when you play, it leaves the mark on your skin. It is particularly noticable [and frequent] if you wear makeup. The trick to getting rid of any marks is not to use the treated polishing cloth.

Or, it could be a mark of an allergy to silver. That is why some people get the gold plated lip- allergy reasons. Ironically, I am slightly allergic to gold, and the only thing that kept my skin from getting a rash from my gold lip plate was the clearcoat finish on the headjoint.

Just thought this would be a helpful insight. ;)

I have never used a treated cloth on my flute and I still get "flute lip" although only when i'm wearing makeup. If i'm not wearing any makeup I don't have a problem at all. It is a chemical reaction with the metal and your skin (if it shows up while not wearing makeup) or a chemical reaction with the metal and your makeup. I find that with my gold lip plate it is a little more pronounced. Anyway.....it has nothing to do with any kind of cleaning cloth!

Just wanted to clear that up. If your body reacts to your flute nothing that you do will change that....you will always get "flute lip"....just wear it like a badge of honor. LOL....some of us must suffer for our art!

hmm.... oh well. I just noticed a difference between when I would use a treated cloth versus untreated [and others].
