Is there any kind of
home-material-type-chemical you could use to clean and/or polish a nickel plated
flute? And what about a silver plated one too? ...And what about a 14k gold?

what'd you use to clean nickel plated flute?
On a Nickel plated we
used an old flannel shirt cloth to do the cleaning and that worked well without
scratching. On the Silver plated we have a special polishing cloth that we
picked up at the music store. It is 1/2 gray silver polishing/pink tarnish
removing cloth. My daughters mouthpiece is 14 kt gold and we were told not to
use the polishing cloth on that so she just uses the flannel shirt material. HTH

With silver plated flutes
dont put them anywhere near silver polish, it will remove the plating.[8)]
