I dont really know..........
I think for me at least, it is a compulsion. I HAVE to do something musical. I have always been that way. When I was little, I sang until I started playing the piano by ear. Then, I did that until I got a violin, then I played violin until I got a recorder, and then on to the flute.
If I dont play my flute, I start "air" practicing.... my fingers will just go through the fingerings without the instrument in hand. If I dont play my flute, I feel wierd, and just completely off balance.
Music has always been a part of me, and I cant imagine myself any other way.....
What I wonder, is why people DONT love to play/practice their flute... even when they are music majors!?!

Music is such an amazing thing, it can make people feel so may things, I love creating the character of a piece, it just so happens that the flute is the way I do it. I just love the feelings music creates, its hard to explain, but there is something very special about making it. You can experience some of that feeling by listening to it, but its just so intensified when you are playing it. I love it.

For the love of...
For moi, playing flute is good as meditation. Whether its bamboo, wood or silver, it just transports you to another world. "Why do you play flute" seemed like such a simple question when I started to post a reply, but now I realise its really hard to put it in words... lets me just say I love it because I love it.

Hah Binzone I think you actually have more flutes than I do. I love them all, silver, brass, bamboo, ceramic- they all have character and charm. Now to become proficient at playing them..... I love the way flutes sound the the infinite variations you can add to sound of the flute.binzone wrote:For moi, playing flute is good as meditation. hmm for me, flute is just a gorgeous instrument, and I've found that I can really express things through my playing. When I play, sure I do it because I love playing, it's fun, challenging, refreshing. But, what I love more is making people feel something when I play. This can be accomplished on any instrument really, but for me its flute. I feel I can really lose myself when I play flute, and I find it very captivating.
I remember how my passion all started haha, my friend was playing her solo for solo and ensemble, and I was in there listening, and felt all these emotions coming up as she was playing(yeah I know cheesy...) it was amazing lol. But yeah...

I started playing because I liked the flute music played by Ian Anderson from the band Jethro Tull. I'm a fan of his music but when I looked for music to practice I fell in to play celtic stuff. I don't know why I play. I know why I started but...eh. I play because I want to play.
Huh and who are you?
