An unmatch powell headjoint with other flute?

Post by cheese »

I like the sound of powell headjoint.
Are there any problem if the powell headjoint is 'modified' to fit with other flute, or vise versa? Thanks everyone. :P

I think you are the one that has to answer that question. Have you tried a Powell HJ on your Armstrong? If not, you should try them together before buying.

Putting a Powell HJ on an Armstrong may be a bit like putting a Porsche engine in a Volkswagen, but if you like the engine sound and can't afford the whole Porsche, what are you gonna do :?

Try it. If you're happy with the results (or not), then you've answered your own question.

$1800 Powell headjoint into an Armstrong? Why?

You could buy a Sonare<Bleck!>(At least the mechanism is at least as good if not better than any Armstrong I ever played). You would get the Powell headjoint, and a new flute for that!!!!!! The only way this makes sense is if you already have the headjoint. There are just too many choices out there if you have $1800 dollars to spend.

Other than that, there would be nothing wrong from a mechanical standpoint.

I have several students who upgrade their headjoints. There is nothing wrong with a mismatched flute and head as long as they produce the sound you want and it plays in tune.

As for buying a Sonare for the headjoint, the heads on the ones that I have tried have not impressed me that much. No matter what the marketing says, the headjoints are different.

later on, if you decide to buy a Powell, most dealers will give you a discount for buying just the body, so you really don't loose much.

Actually, the headjoint cost $1500. It is a custom made Powell headjoint with a gold riser.
