what do you prefer in, piccolo wise, in marching band.
Do you use metal or plastic?
please send me your reason why.
thanks.

I prefer metal for marching band and wood (not plastic) for concert band. I find that metal has the shrill sound you need for marching band, and higher notes (really high notes) come out easier and clearer.

IN concert band, wood is the way to go, it has such beautiful tone.

For marching band, I actually prefer metal/plastic hybrid piccolos. Plastic bodies with metal headjoints. On the whole, they tend to be more mellow than metal piccs, but have no trouble cutting through the ensemble.
