Breath Builder
Hi, last week my daughters teacher had her try a device
called a breath builder. It is a bottle with a small "ping pong" type of ball
inside of it. The object is to blow into it hard to get the ball to come to the
top and then breathe in and out to keep the ball at the top as long as you can.
This exercise is supposed to help you keep your breath more steady or
consistent. I was impressed with what I heard so I found one online and ordered
it. Have any of you ever used one of these? There is also a bag that you can use
but the bottle definitely seemed easier to use. Kim

I believe that device came from the one they use after
surgery to get patients lungs cleared. I should know someone that still has
theirs. They send them home with the patients. Either that or I will stand at
the exit of the hospital and offer some old folks a fiver as they
leave.[] [] [] [:praise:] [;)] [:0] []

Penny~ Yep, that is exactly what I thought it was when
my daughters teacher took it out LOL I could hear an immediate difference in my
daughter after she used that in one lesson. I think it will be a wonderful help
when used regularly. I am betting a person could get one from a medical supply
store too. Kim

Hi. I have a breath builder with 3 tubes and 3 balls,
each weighing different weights. For mine I have to suck in air to get the balls
to rise, one at a time, then see how long I can breathe in for to keep the balls
up. I found that using this has definately made me a stronger player and I can
perform a better range of dynamics, as well as holding long notes [8)]

Music 123 has Breath Builder and a half dozen other
breath improvement devices. Fluteworld has a slightly different model.

Vanessa~ I think the cheapest I have seen is the Breath
Builder bag for about $14.95 at Music123. The tube which I ordered runs about
$17.95 at most places. The different places have different devices that can be
as much as $79.95. If you do a Google search with the words Breath Builder you
will get a number of websites to check out prices. I personally went with
Fluteworld because I have ordered from them before and they send things pretty
quickly
