Currently-
(on my own)
Mozart, Andante from Piano Sonata No.1
Bizet, Minuet from L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2
Levy, Grand Russian Fantasia (If anyone knows anything about this piece I'd appreciate some information or commentary)
(Legion Band)
picking out music for contest. Last year we did the Finale from the New World Symphony, the Sinfonians, and We Are Together (the directer composed)
This year its looking like a finale from Schosticovich or Tichofsky (please pardon my spelling) when the music is picked I'll update

I'm working on these for my college symphony orchestra audition in the Fall (they're almost finished):
Faure Fantaisie
Mozart Flute Concerto No.1 in G Allegro maestoso
Playing these for fun but will eventually clean them:
Bizet Minuet de L'arlesienne
Bach Polonaise and Badinerie in d minor
Faure Sicilienne
Mozart Flute Concerto No.2 in D Allegro aperto
I'm looking at these pieces to study over the summer, but I haven't decided which ones yet:
Chopin Minute Waltz Op.64, No.1
Orchestral study on Afternoon of a Faune by Debussy
Three Nocturnes by Debussy
Gaubert Nocturne et Allegro Scherzando
Mozart Concerto in C (though I should take a break from Mozart, hehe)
Rimsky-Korsakoff Scheherazade
Saint-Saens Romance Op.37
They're from The Modern Flutist and 24 Flute Concert Studies published by SMC, so if you have any suggestions to pieces you like in those books I'd be glad to hear from you! :]

I do not get many classical gigs, so I mostly work out on patterns. I do these on Flute and Pic
David Chesky's Modern Jazz/Rock Progressions Book I and II(Hard)
Jazz Improvisation by Sam Most (Great book and play along!)(Medium)
14 Jazz & Funk Etudes By Bob Mintzer (Hard)
VOL. 26 - CHARLIE PARKER Play Along released by Hal Leonard(Medium)
These will keep me busy for a while for sure. I can play through the books, but memorizing and execution are the hard parts! Another part of the difficulty is the high tempo at which some of these patterns are executed. There is one tune in the Bob Mintzer book called "Fast!" It is absolutely amazing how fast he plays through it on the CD!
Oh well, I am working on it...lol

Hmmm...
I began Faure Fantasie about a week ago...am I sensing a pattern here?
I just finished Syrinx, as well as Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata, which I'm polishing a bit.
And I just received word that Bloch's Suite Modale is the district piece for this year, so I've pulled that out again and will be polishing it up as well.
Oh, what fun.

Debussy Afternoon of a Faun
Faure Fantasie
Gaubert Nocturne et Allegro Scherzando
Périlhou Ballade
I actually picked up Faun today (when I initially went to pick up Mozart's Concerto No. 1 in G), as I just found it through their library, and it was only $8. Problem was with the concerto, my mom had them order it for me, and I didn't tell her it was No. 1, not No. 2, so they got me No. 2. The staff was very friendly about it, though, and happily agreed to order No. 1 for me.

WOW! I forgot all about this.
I guess that my repetoire has changed quite a bit since then...
I'm now finishing with my recital repetoire [ some CPE Bach, Hue, and Liebermann]. Next week I start work on Orchestral Excerpts [took a break for my recital coming up], and I start work on Chant de Linos by Andre Jolivet.

I'm a novice flutist just learning the basics, but I had "Syrinx" on the brain when I read your post just now. My flute teacher gave me some homework to do this week, which was to listen to at least three different interpretations of "Syrinx" so I could hear the different ways in which the flutists played the piece. I did a search for "Syrinx" on YouTube and quite a few videos popped up. I've really been enjoying listening to the performances and have fallen in love with this piece! It will give me a goal to work toward in my studies.fluteguy18 wrote:I just finished Debussy's Syrinx

I played Faure's Fantasie for a few competitions a few months ago. I really liked it, but I got sick of playing it after a while. My main problem with it is that i didn't practice the runs thoroughly enough. so they were kinda sloppy. right now i'm working on Ganne's Andante et Scherzo. there's a youtube video of me playing just the andante, my name's elyse davis. i'm going to do it for a competition in november and probably a different one in february. and just for fun, i'm learning the Allegretto by Godard. from the suite that has three movements, the allegretto, the idyll, and the valse. i can't remember the name of the suite. but i really like it.
