It seems that there are quite a few
people out there that are flute shopping and stop in on many message boards to
ask what kind of flute they should buy. I was thinking it might be interesting
to see what flutes were being played by people posting on this site. My answer:
I play a student model Yamaha. It has worked well for me so far and it worked
well for the original owner that I bought it from. When I was in school I played
on a Armstrong..I don't remember having any problems with that when I played
it. My daughter plays a open hole Gemeinhardt. She started playing on a student
Gemeinhardt that served her well also. She will be getting a Drelinger headjoint
in the Spring. Kim

I DID play a yamaha 385II but it was
damaged recently so I need a new one. I am considering Pearl flutes ( I posted a
new topic about it) but I dont know much about them. If anyone knows could you
fill me in? I want my teachers flute! She plays a Brannan Cooper aka +$10,000
and I might get to use it for my big orchestra solo.

Hi, I play an Emerson and I don't no
the model number. Its open holed, b foot, and solid silver head. I used to wish
I had a different one and I was saving up to get a really expensive one and then
I got an old flute off ebay. Its over 25 years old and when I go to my Emerson
after playing my marching flute it makes me feel really great (I dont know, it
just makes me feel really happy)and I regret ever wanting a different one. My
marching flute is a Gemeinhardt M2 closed hole, c foot, and only silver plating
which is coming off. I also have a Jupiter piccolo which is all plastic, mostly
because i wanted it for marching, and I think the black looks really cool.

I play a Trevor James Virtuoso II and
I think its amazing. Its solid silver, open hole, has a B foot, split E,
contoured lip plate and I love it to bits! It sounds great. I got it about 6
months ago. I play my student Yamaha flute and feel sort of held back then I
pick it up and play and I feel that I can do so much more with it. I really like
playing expressively and I feel I can really achieve that with my flute.

Hmmm... my very first flute was about
ten years old when I got it. So one day, when I took it to the shop to repair a
small problem (the cork fell off the E flat key), I found that my flute was SO
OLD that it was out of tune and always would be. It seems that it was just built
deferently than most modern flutes. I immediatly bought a new flute, which is
the one I have now. Mine is a normal, student model Gemeinhardt. A very basic
flute, but it is nice and dependable. I know I'll still have it, and maybe even
be playing it, years from now. I love it to death... *hugs her flute*... All
nice and shiny... nevermind. Must end before I get off topic. [] [:)]

I play a student Gemeinhardt
(spelling?). Closed hole, C foot. Nothing special but it serves me well and I
sound pretty good on it. And really when you think of it doesn't the sound and
music you produce on your flute just as important as the brand and type of flute
it is?
