Books for self studying
Hello,
I am looking for books for self studying as a beginner.
Which ones are the best? Thanks.

Great Book
Hey ABC,
I have just recently began the flute when I was given one for Christmas and, with no flute teachers found in my area, I decided to teach myself.
After some searching, I stumbled on Amazon a book called, "How to play the Flute" by Howard Harrison. It teaches straight from how to put your flute together to all the basic notes. By the end of this book you should be able to play songs like, "Greensleeves" and other songs. It also has a fingering chart at the back, with other useful charts. This book is a must have for beginners!!!
Good luck beginning to play - it's so much fun!!!

I would suggest you go to your library, I did and found a great book for my daughter which taught her all the fingerings and even had music to play in it. Try "How to play the flute, everything you need to know" by Howard Harrison or Flute for Dummies. Just see what your library has and take a look at each of them, maybe check out all of them so you can see what one works best for you. The books are kinda expensive and once you know the basics you won't need that one anymore so the library is your best bet besides our library let us have the book for a month and then we renewed it online for another 2 weeks. It was great.

Every one uses it!
Hey chermo,
I believe every body that plays the flute owns Howard Harrison's book. At least every flute player I know does. It really is great to know I am using such a popular book! Just wanted to let you know...

Flutepower, we don't own it I just rented it from the library cause I know she was not going to need it for long. I basically re taught myself how to play using it and then taught her to play from what I learned from it. It was a great book, my daughter knew a lot before she even started band cause she owned a flute already so over the summer I taught her how to play it was basically if you want this phone you play 30 minutes each day till school starts so she knew a lot before band even started for this year. It was great. I just hope she now sticks with it. She was saying that she wanted to quit band but I think she is now liking it so hopefully she stays with it through at least high school. For her 1st year and not even a full year yet she sounds wonderful.

Hey ABC,
This book should bring you to be able to play to intermediate, and/or songs like Greensleves. This book does not teach you how to play very high or low notes, so you would have to buy another book when completed. I personally am not past this level yet, but I am planning to buy "Rubank Advanced Method for FLute" Here is another book I will probably buy:
"Practice Books For The Flute: Omnibus Edition by Trevor Wye books 1-5".
For more information go to :
http://www.google.com/products?q=easy+m ... flute&aq=f
for music books. Amazon has almost all the music books you will need at a reasonable price. I hoped this helped you in finding the perfect book - have fun playing the flute!

Hey ABC,
A private teacher would be great along Harrison's book if you can find one, but I teach myself with a friend on this book, along with this course and online music sheets and I'm doing great alone, considering that I've only played for only four or five months. I doubt I could do any better with an instructor. I am already working on Greensleeves and it sounds pretty good so far. Still, make sure that you read EVERY single word in the book, I repeat, EVERY word!!! I have made some errors by skipping just a few lines, but thankfully I fixed my mistakes.
Good Luck in flute playing
