National Flute Association Convention- Anaheim

Post by fluteguy18 »

Hey,

I know that this is still WAAAAAAYYYYY early to be posting, but I'm getting my plans settled for summer. I'm going to be attending the NFA convention in Anaheim California this August. I've already booked my flight (got a great deal! Right now is the time to buy!) the hotel room (in the conference center where the convention is being held), and got a great deal because I booked it through NFA. I'm looking for someone to split the room with if at all possible. Guys only (sorry ladies, but my girlfriend would be furious, and it would be rather awkward anyway...).

If anyone is interested, let me know. Evidently the PM feature has been temporarily suspended because of spam, so you can email me. My email address is easy: (insert my fluteland screen name)@yahoo.com.

I don't honestly expect anyone to be able to commit yet, but if any of you guys are thinking about going, this is an option to consider.

Unfortunately, I'm female and I can't help there, but if you have the opportunity to participate in the opening flute concert, you should. I know Wendy Kumar, who will be directing it. Always a great experience working with her.

::bump::

I'm still looking for a roommate if anyone is interested. I had a roommate, but he bailed. To make a long story short, he and I met at another flute event, and he caused too much drama. He was WAY too fickle and snippy whereas I am more of the quiet and mellow type.

Any takers? I got a GREAT rate on the room! I booked it through the NFA and it's in the hotel where the convention is being held. If you stayed every evening that I was there you would only pay $240USD. That's chump change in comparison to how much it would cost to stay there, without the discount, and all by yourself!!! I'm quiet, clean, sane, and serious about getting as much out of the convention as possible!!!

feel free to reply here with your email, or you can email me at adampettry@gmail.com

I may be interested. Have you been to one of these conventions before? If so, could you tell me if it would really hinder my opportunities to take advantage of the convention as much as possible if I stay with friends who may be 20 min. away? Would that be un-doable at the NFA convention?

At first I thought I was going to be able to go to Anaheim this year, but it now turns out that I cannot. I have a hotel room reservation that I made early on the NFA block rate. If there is anybody who wants it, and it is possible for us to substitute at the same time, I would be happy to give up my room. I have a king non-smoking at the NFA rate.

Please let me know if you are interested and we can see what is possible. I'm not sure it's possible, but I would sure hate to see my canceled room go to waste.

Anybody who is interested on here in trying to make it work, please let Fluteguy18 know. He has my private email and can put me in touch with you if need be (hope you don't mind FG18 :-), since it appears PMs are still down on this site.

My advice would be to stay at the host hotel if you can. If you are wanting to try out flutes, the best way to do that is in the flute maker suites that offer time usually only during the evening. Also, you are likely to meet people you will want to hang with and having a place at the hotel makes that all the easier. Being 20 min away isn't terrible. But if you can, I'd try to make it work so you can stay at the Convention site.

All,

I am not now able to attend the convention anymore, either. I spent a month studying with Amy Porter, Bonnie Boyd, Linda Toote, and many others and have had my share of flute events/ classes for the summer. I have also decided to move into my new house that same weekend. If you are hesitant about responding to Fluteguy or Sidekicker because you think they may be giving the reservations to me, please do not hesitate to contact them. Their rooms are still open as far as I am aware and do not hesitate to grab a room from them :] Sincerely,

My room is still open. I currently have an offer to room with 3 other guys at the convention (they're all splitting a room), but I would prefer not to do so simply because of personal reasons. They're all friends and in college together, and should something go wrong I don't want to be in a bad situation (outnumbered). Not that I am suspicious but would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to strangers.

My room is still open. But I'm probably going to be canceling it by next weekend because I don't want to forget and accidentally end up paying for it.

Just an FYI -- I canceled my room reservation this morning. I have no idea if anybody is still interested, or if the room is still available, but I waited as long as I could.

I hope those of you attending have a wonderful time!!

I really wanted to attend. In fact everyone else from my Masterclass is attending but I just could not justify it given that I just made my final payment for a new Brannen flute that I should be receiving late September.

Maybe 2010 in Las Vegas, my husband said he would go with me and do other things during the day.

It is around 5:30pm where I live. I have a wide variety of things to do before I go to bed. I leave for the convention tomorrow at 7am EST. My flight leaves at 10:30 (airport is an hour away). Any last takers?

I definitely plan on posting what classes I attended after I return. Then if there is interest, I will post my notes from specific classes upon request. (They would be posted via new thread for all to see).

Off to Anaheim! Oh, and I totally plan on living the dream Miley Cyrus Style! " I hopped off the plane at LAX..."

No cardigan though. Shame. I thought Mr. Rogers was cool.
