Boston area teacher?

Post by m3the01 »

Hey everyone,

I will be travelling to boston to finish up some writing for the next four months, ive already been to Brannen and they were great.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a great teacher in the boston, or preferably the New Hampshire area,

Thanks,

I don't know about New Hampshire, but Boston is like a flute mecca. The question is who's not a good flute teacher there. However, I don't really know how easy it would be to study with the great teachers there. They are really some of the best in the world. Just to drop a few names, Paula Robison, Fenwick Smith, Doriot Dwyer, Linda Toote. Good luck! If you can get in with one of them, or someone else (look up the various schools/ orchestras in the Boston area) you'll surely get a lot out of it.

Personally....

Having studied with one of Doriot Dwyer's students and having heard manymanymanymany stories about the lady, and reading a biography about her, I personally would not recommend studying with her. I don't know from personal experience, but I have gotten the impression that she is very fickle and is very frustrating. I have also gotten impressions from other flutists in her league (career renown/fame) that she is someone to avoid.

Just what I have heard.

I've heard remarkable things about Fenwick Smith and Paula Robison though.

Linda Toote was a great help, thank you to Brannen flutes for putting me in touch with her.

Im now studying, or arranging :-), weekly lessons with one of her previous students Ona Jonaityte. After researching her, im very happy to be studying with such a accomplished flutist.

Thanks for the help,

Great! I studied with Linda Toote a little this summer, and she is indeed a marvelous person. I'm so glad she was able to help you so much!
