Does anyone here us powdered pad papers ? I was wondering if they work
better than regular pad papers. I was reading recently that you can use regular
talcum powder on pad papers and that works too but I am not sure if that would
be good for the pads or not. Kim

Pad Papers
i try and stay away from powdered pad paper. i have found
that a lot of people use it incorrectly. they stick the piece of paper under the
key, close the key, and then slide the paper out while the key is still down.
this is not good for the pads because of the powder on the paper it is almost
like a very very fine sandpaper, and over time if you use the paper frequently
enough it begins to destroy the layer of skin over the felt on the pad. i had a
friend who heard to use a dollar bill because the paper is similar to that of
pad paper and absorbs the moisture well. she did this quite frequently and
eventually she had to have her entire flute repaded because the skins on the pad
were so badly shreded. i personally like to use cigarette paper, and depress the
key and open the key and remove the paper. but that's just my input. [:)]

I agree with Courtney. I've never heard of using powder
with the key papers. Sounds like it would be harmful to the pads. I also use
cigarette paper. It's very thin and does its job. Really the only thing you
need it for is to get the spit out of the keys. Powder would just gunk it up.

Pad Papers
Thanks for the replies. I also have only used cigarette
papers. I bought regular pad papers at the music store yesterday so I don't
have to mess with cutting the sticky edge off of them and also cigarette papers
are not a good thing for my daughter to keep in her flute case cover at school
I was thinking that the powder would eventually gum up the pads too so I was
wondering if anyone had successfully used that. Kim

Pad Papers
what exactly do you mean by cigarette paper?
Pad Papers
I haven't tried the powdered papers, but Brenda at
Fluteworld says she really likes them. On Cigarette papers - (for the previous
poster, those are the papers you buy to roll your own cigarettes) I read of
another substitute on either the Larry Krantz pages or Altus forum, don't
remember which. The poster says he uses "End Papers" sold at beauty supply
places. Those are the papers they use with old fashioned curlers. He said they
are even easier on the pads than cigarette papers, and no one gives you funny
looks when you buy them (Okay, I grew up in the 70's, and can't buy rolling
papers without feeling like I'm doing something wrong! LOL).

I was wondering if anyone has tried the glass cleaning
tissues? My flute instructor mentioned she thought it was similar to the pad
papers but wasn't real sure.
