Willi~ I haven't welcomed you to
the board yet but I wanted to take a minute to do that right now. I imagine that
you will be very successful with flute playing as you have with other things in
your life as you seem to have a lot of drive and love of the things that you go
after. I read with great interest the article about the Edison Trait that you
provided and it reminded me of what I have been saying about condeming a kid
before they even get a good start because of a flute brand choice. I wonder what
would have happened it Edison had listened the negative thinkers that he ran
into. I hope that if we have some young Edisons here lurking that they will read
the article that you provided and be as inspired as I was. Oh, and

Oh Thank you so much, Iam stoked
this is my first and cant wait to see her, were playing alot of different music
to her now stuff wit real specific tones "slower mozart" I found an awsome tiny
baby grand piano made by dexton but my wife wont let me by it yet. Ive been
playing flute to her in the lower keys 'mostly lullabies that I can pond out by
ear". I figure when shes born shell recognize the sound and it will sooth her. I
was once going to do a study in college about babys and how they hear in the
womb. I can remeber as a todler sitting in my dads lap and listening to him talk
through his chest and how it would put me to sleep. even as an adult when Iam
sick I often lay my sead on my wifes arm or chest and liten to her breath and
talk and it still sooths me. when the child is in the womb there hearing through
bone conduction "not using ear drums" When the are born they dont get the same
auditory scence that they had, sounds are much louder and clear. but they can
recognize you when you hold them on your chest. anyway Iam rambling, Oh and my
father went to med school but had to drop out to support his family. he retired
two yearsago as a janitor from the post office. when he took his civil service
for state trooper and postal worker he scored highest on both. was a state
troper for a year and hurt himself,. he's one of the smartest people I know.

that youve worked with Gifted kids after reading some of your other posts you
really dont seem to have a place in your world for people who are alternitive to

ummm...hee hee. I'm a little
nervous now ... I looked up this site 'middle aged wanna bees' because I'm
one. I thought the posts started out well, hearing others who have started up
the flute. Well, my husband bought me a flute yesterday!!! I'm 33 and a piano
teacher. I've been reading through some of the very good advice this forum
offers and have learnt five notes already. I'm pretty happy with that. So I'll
let you know how it goes. I hope people are still going to comment on this
thread. It's good to hear from people a little older. I'm surprised that so
many are teaching themselves. So I'm in good company.[:)]

that you jumped in and let us know you are here. Yes, there are quite a few of
us middle age players on this site. Many boards seem to have all young players
or all experienced players but this one seems to have a very good mixture and
that makes it comfortable for everyone to learn from each other. Kim

Hi Minsmusic! Welcome to the board.
I'm one of the middle-aged flute players too. Kim is right...from what I've
been able to find, this is one of the better boards for flute players. It's fun
to read what the younger people have to say and be able to help them out now and
then...and to learn from them too! But unlike so many boards out there, we've
got quite a number of more mature players - both newbies and those picking the
flute up again after long absences (I'm the latter - back at it for just over 3
years now). I think that maybe we should consider changing the name of our group
from "middle aged" flute players to something a little kinder! What do you
think? [;)]
