Sorry the truth hurts so much Willi.
Hope also it doesn't hurt to much to tell you 136 IQ isn't all that. Actually
genuis is generally accepted as starting at 140. But hey your close maybe you
could squeeze in under the standard deviation. But you sound like you have done
well for yourself anyway[] Even not being a freekin genuis. As for those
genuis janitors, what a crock which best describes your entire post.[:)]

Wechsler Adult and Children Scales
(WAIS and WAIS-R, WISC, WISC-R, WISC-III) Note: Short form not accepted IQ 130
This is good enough for my chapter of mensa so its good enough for me, sounds
like your a bit of an eliteist, I dont quote things unless I have the proff in
fron of me. Seems like your the one in the forum no one likes your problem with
me is that I dont fit your stereotype "shall we just call you "SOLIARIE" Being
divorsed and lonely is no reason to be rude! Oh and if you really Need it I can
verify my admision into mensa along with all other claims Ill be happy to send
you my name adress and the Phone number to the binghamton New York Chapter of
Mensa, I can Also have Rebbeca Root verify My playing abilities, I co teach in
her class with the austic child I was talking about. Take a look on the internet
about her youll be surprised.

to Anyone whom would like to know
more about the Edison Trait this is a good synopsis.
http://borntoexplore.org/edison.htm and Penny I challenge you to the Mensa
online quiz. I will also publish my music next week to prove I compose for
guitar. oh and before I forget each test has different scales at which they
score If you were at all crafty you would have looked up your info before
sticking your foot in your mouth From our web site: The term "IQ score" is
widely used but poorly defined. There are a large number of tests with different
scales. The result on one test of 132 can be the same as a score 148 on another
test. Some intelligence tests don't use IQ scores at all. Mensa has set a
percentile as cutoff to avoid this confusion. Candidates for membership in Mensa
must achieve a score at or above the 98th percentile (a score that is greater
than or equal to 98 percent of the general population taking the test) on a
standard test of intelligence and: Mensans range in age from 4 to 94, but most
are between 20 and 60. In education they range from preschoolers to high school
dropouts to people with multiple doctorates. There are Mensans on welfare and
Mensans who are millionaires. As far as occupations, the range is staggering.
Mensa has professors and truck drivers, scientists and firefighters, computer
programmers and farmers, artists, military people, musicians, laborers, police
officers, glassblowers--the diverse list goes on and on. There are famous
Mensans and prize-winning Mensans, but there are many whose names you wouldn't
know

Willi~ I haven't welcomed you to
the board yet but I wanted to take a minute to do that right now. I imagine that
you will be very successful with flute playing as you have with other things in
your life as you seem to have a lot of drive and love of the things that you go
after. I read with great interest the article about the Edison Trait that you
provided and it reminded me of what I have been saying about condeming a kid
before they even get a good start because of a flute brand choice. I wonder what
would have happened it Edison had listened the negative thinkers that he ran
into. I hope that if we have some young Edisons here lurking that they will read
the article that you provided and be as inspired as I was. Oh, and
congratulations to you and your wife on your bundle of joy that you are
expecting. Kim

Oh Thank you so much, Iam stoked
this is my first and cant wait to see her, were playing alot of different music
to her now stuff wit real specific tones "slower mozart" I found an awsome tiny
baby grand piano made by dexton but my wife wont let me by it yet. Ive been
playing flute to her in the lower keys 'mostly lullabies that I can pond out by
ear". I figure when shes born shell recognize the sound and it will sooth her. I
was once going to do a study in college about babys and how they hear in the
womb. I can remeber as a todler sitting in my dads lap and listening to him talk
through his chest and how it would put me to sleep. even as an adult when Iam
sick I often lay my sead on my wifes arm or chest and liten to her breath and
talk and it still sooths me. when the child is in the womb there hearing through
bone conduction "not using ear drums" When the are born they dont get the same
auditory scence that they had, sounds are much louder and clear. but they can
recognize you when you hold them on your chest. anyway Iam rambling, Oh and my
father went to med school but had to drop out to support his family. he retired
two yearsago as a janitor from the post office. when he took his civil service
for state trooper and postal worker he scored highest on both. was a state
troper for a year and hurt himself,. he's one of the smartest people I know.

? are you really that ignorant, this
was a quote from the mensa site, dingy all tests, test on a different scale so
you saying that 140 is in the range of genius which may be so for some tests but
not all goofey. I didnt say you were divorced I said that being divorced and
lonely is no excuse for being rude I guess you just assumed I was refering to
you. and you were the first to attack people of the more technical mind saying
we arent creative. My name is william H. Davis I am a member of the binghamton
chapter of the mensa. I graduated from ithaca college with a degree in speech
pathology and audiology. I currently am a special education teacher at south
seneca middle and high school. you can call me a phoney if you want "which Iam
not sure why you care so much" but its all there. I came on here to chat and
give information which I did and you tore into me you post was nasty and
stereo-typical. So Penny "you are divorced arent you" Bill

Penny, I actually found Willi's
posts to be informative. I didnt get the idea that he was bragging but trying to
inform people of the different stereo types people have. It doesent surprise me
that youve worked with Gifted kids after reading some of your other posts you
really dont seem to have a place in your world for people who are alternitive to
you ideals. I recolect that there has been an awful lot of times you've
mentioned that you daughter was first chair. Nothing wron with being proud of
you daughter, Iam not taking that away from you but that sounds alot like
bragging also. Your post at the top of this page was very un-necessary. and this
isnt the firat time people have complained about you lack of tact. Thanks Willi
for the posts and Penny you really do sound like a lonely divorced angry woman

ummm...hee hee. I'm a little
nervous now ... I looked up this site 'middle aged wanna bees' because I'm
one. I thought the posts started out well, hearing others who have started up
the flute. Well, my husband bought me a flute yesterday!!! I'm 33 and a piano
teacher. I've been reading through some of the very good advice this forum
offers and have learnt five notes already. I'm pretty happy with that. So I'll
let you know how it goes. I hope people are still going to comment on this
thread. It's good to hear from people a little older. I'm surprised that so
many are teaching themselves. So I'm in good company.[:)]

Hi~ Welcome to the board. I am glad
that you jumped in and let us know you are here. Yes, there are quite a few of
us middle age players on this site. Many boards seem to have all young players
or all experienced players but this one seems to have a very good mixture and
that makes it comfortable for everyone to learn from each other. Kim

Hi Minsmusic! Welcome to the board.
I'm one of the middle-aged flute players too. Kim is right...from what I've
been able to find, this is one of the better boards for flute players. It's fun
to read what the younger people have to say and be able to help them out now and
then...and to learn from them too! But unlike so many boards out there, we've
got quite a number of more mature players - both newbies and those picking the
flute up again after long absences (I'm the latter - back at it for just over 3
years now). I think that maybe we should consider changing the name of our group
from "middle aged" flute players to something a little kinder! What do you
think? [;)]
