Hi, I''m a new flute player and know next to nothing
about taking care of my new instrument. I received it as a Christmas present,
and in the case there was a small plastic cup of something that looks and feels
like vaseline. Is this to go on the connections of the flute, between the head
joint, body, and foot joint? Thanks, Whistler (P.S.- Any other suggestions for a
newbie are welcome!)

Well it probably is, but I have heard that you
shouldn't use lubricants cause all they do is attract dirt and oil on your
flute.

I'm really not sure why that was included with
your flute. When I got my first piccolo, there was a little tub like what you
described, and it was for the piece of cork that connected to the headjoint to
keep it from getting stiff. But there really should be no need to use anything
like this for flute.
