General Artley Flute Question

Post by hoss6595 »

Hello,

We recently found a Artley flute that my wife had as a child. Our knowledge of flutes is fairly limited.
I was looking for any insight or information (type of flute, value, etc) that could be provided on our flute. The serial number is 116312
It is still in case and is in good condition as it has not stored for many many years.
Thanks in advance, I have attached a pic

Any information would be greatly appreciated

I am a flute student who bought Artley, not a flute expert. But fwiw here's my input.

Your flute was made in 1963. I think it is a student model. If you can find a model number this can be confirmed.

If you wanted to sell, unfortunately Artley aren't worth a lot because they had quality problems in the 70's and the brand suffered. Even though your flute is older it's still an Artley. I own one precisely because I could get it cheaper than other brands. If you watch eBay in your country you can get an idea of value.

If you wanted to play it, take it to a flute tech to make sure it is ok. However if it needs major work you should think before spending the money, since it will be many times what the flute is worth. But that's a worst case. It might need no work at all! And if the flute has sentimental value a bit more on repairs might be warranted.

If you search these forums you will find a lot more detail.
