I have really noticed
that I prefer slower music. Something that tends to flow helps me to get a
feeling for the music rather than just playing notes. So you notice that you
tend to enjoy one style of music or others ? Kim

ones. My junior high instructor told us that the hardest music to play is slow
music, and I agree. Even though it's easier to play the notes, slow music helps
you focus on techniques that faster music neglect: intonation, breath support,
etc. I also like the variety that slow music has. They can range from whole
notes to 16th/32nd notes depending on the piece, and I like the variety it has.
Fast music is fun, but I prefer slow music over all.

I love French music..
and also newer 20th/21st century stuff. But I do also love to learn new things..
regardless of what it is. Challenge is what keeps me going.

Nowadays, I play for my
own enjoyment and relaxation. What I play really depends on my mood on a
particular day, I think. I'll play just about anything. Both slow and fast
pieces offer their own different challenges. Like dancingflutist, I love Irish
jigs and other celtic music. I always have, even before I could play the flute.
A good chunk of my ancestors came from that part of the world (Scotland and
Ireland), so I think it's genetic for me! Most people cringe when they hear
bagpipes, but it gets my blood boiling! I'm classically trained and that tends
to be the majority of what I play now. I love baroque, romantic...throw in a
twist of the blues, and some modern popular stuff just for fun...the list goes
on. Hey, I even used to do some polka duets with my Dad on his accordian when I
was a kid. Now, THERE'S a combination you don't hear to often...and there's a
good reason for that! [;)]
