Furry flute peg?

I finally figured out that my flute would be safer on my table on a flute peg rather than trying to find a way for it to lie flat without rolling onto the mechanism, etc. I bought a Hercules Clarinet/Flute stand that seems very stable, and the telescoping peg is long enough to really support the flute.

The question I have is this: The peg itself is velvet-covered, rather than wood. If I don't swab the flute out before I put it onto the peg am I going to cause problems with the flute pads? I find myself using the flute stand frequently, for brief periods such as when I switch what music is on the stand. Or am I simply indulging my propensity to obsess?

The peg doesn't really go far enough into the flute that you should be worried about that, also the flute being outside a case and vertical you doubly shouldn't worry. (though you shouldn't leave your flute out 24/7 like that or other things will attack your pads)

Thanks. If I had a cotton cover that slipped onto the flute while on the peg would that be enough protection from dust and whatever in the air could damage the pads so that I could leave the flute for several hours between practice sessions?
