Have you actually picked up your flute to try? 'Cause you might find that you know more than you thought.

Regardless, take some lessons. You'll be just fine.
Cheers,

You will remember, you will be surprised when you pick up a flute. Anyway, a good teacher will soon be able to point you in the right direction. My friend gave up for around 10 years and she started again and she has improved by so much in a few months, so you can do it.

After reading your post, I had to move from "lurking" to registering on the message board in order to respond! Until three years ago I had not played flute for 47 years!! Neither my husband, my children, nor my GRANDCHILDREN had ever heard me play the flute. From the 5th grade through my junior year of high school I had played an Armstrong student flute ($140 new in the late 1940's). My only teachers were trumpet or french horn-playing band directors!! At the age of 63, I found a teacher who was a REAL flutist (and has since become a good friend) and bought a used Yamaha student flute. When I first picked up the flute I was able to play a couple octaves of the chromatic scale. No one was more surprised than I was! :D After six weeks of lessons and playing again, I regretted that I had purchased a student flute; so I bought a Yamaha 481...sterling silver, B foot, open hole, and so much better tone. After my fourth lesson, my teacher said, "You must really have missed playing the flute." I guess I hadn't really thought about it before, but when I started again I realized that I had missed playing and was now enjoying it so much!
GO FOR IT!!
