Colleges

I’m looking for a few good colleges that have the flute or piccolo in both marching season and concert season. I know of a few schools, and have gotten a few things from some, but none of them have flutes or the picc in with marching. I am going to be a Music Major and back it up with a teaching degree, or so I've planned, lol. Do any of you here have any suggestions on where I could go or where I could look into to see if it would work for me? I would appreciate anyone's input on this!

Hmmm...I know some of the schools with the better music departments (like Indiana University) tend to only march piccolos. I believe the University of Southern California's band has both flutes and piccolos, though I really couldn't find anything about it on the internet. (They've been getting a lot of publicity lately; commercials, largely televised football games like the Rose Bowl, they played at the 2004 grammys...) You may want to check out the University of North Texas also. I don't know if they have flutes and piccs in their marching band, but supposedly they have a good program for music majors who want to go into teaching. (I have a friend who goes there for that purpose).

What year are you in high school? (Basically, how much time do you have to think about all of this and visit campuses)? Are there any states that you don't want to go to school in?

I'm a freshmen in High School but I'm feeling pressured by my friends about where I'm going to go. I've looked at Texas State and Texas Tech but I'm not sure if I want to go to either of those. I would like to try and stay in state, unless I find a school that is just what I'm looking for. I wouldn't mind going out of state so much if it just didn't cost me that much more, for colleges that is.

Well...it's probably not such a bad idea to consider what college you want to go to at this point, but trust me-- your friends will very likely change their minds before they actually go to college! What state is it that you want to stay in? (I'm guessing Texas, since you brought up Texas Tech...) Texas is pretty notorious for having good music programs. One of my old band directors was a drum major at Baylor, and Texas A&M Commerce had a pretty cool webpage.

Thanks for the adivice. Yeah, I'm from Tx and would like to stay here. I'll look into the schools you mentioned, if you think of any more then please tell me! I would love to know anything you would like to tell me about it! XD
