The Powell Sonare 501 - In LOVE

Post by AJplaystheflute »

A couple of weeks ago I rented a Carlton CFL200. It is an intermediate flute. I liked it, but didn't love it.
Today, I noticed that my music shop had available for rent, the Sonare 501 that I had had my eye on for a LONG time, and am even contemplating buying.

Even so, I heed all the advice about not just buying something blind, even though I liked the reviews on YouTube and could just "feel" it calling to me. So I seized the opportunity to have experience playing. When an instrument is nearly $2K Canadian, I don't play the lottery.

So, I returned the Carlton, and while the employee was processing my return, he let me play with the Sonare. Instant love. The action on the keys is lower, the headjoint is to die for. It only took a couple of minutes to get used to the feel of the embouchure on the headjoint, and the playing was smooth. I was able to play high notes that I would have otherwise been able to experiment with in the middle of a shop full of customers. My first impression is, I want to elope!

Alas, I have to wait until tax refund time to buy this for life (and it's a high probability I will), since I cannot afford the financing, unless they have like a "boxing week" financing sale. So I am going to enjoy my little affair while it lasts.

In the summer long and mcquade had a financing sale! You can ask them about it, maybe one is coming up soon. Assuming you tried the Sonare at long and mcquade... maybe not!

That is where I am currently renting from (Long and McQuade), yes. I did ask them about financing sales. They did say they have some during boxing week, but if not, I've got it worked out how I can pay for it. We'll be able to pay outright when tax refund time comes early in the year. In the mean time I'm just really enjoying having it to play, at all! I'm loving it so much!
