Flute newbie age 52

Post by AJplaystheflute »

New here, but not new to music. In September, I bought a second-hand Jupiter student flute from our local music store (Long & McQuade), and have been enjoying it a lot. I also currently am renting a Carlton CFL200 because I wanted to see what a B-Foot and open-hole playing was like, and it's also fun. It's a tiny bit trickier to play than my flute, but I'm enjoying the experience of different instruments.

There are advantages to learning at an older age. I find that I *make* the time to play it whenever possible, and don't mind doing the work to understand the fingerings and embouchure. I notice there is also a new flute player at age 62 on this site. I am a quick learner and have been able to practice many hours a day (I'm a housewife and my husband works from home). I've been invited to play with the flute section of my daughter's school band for their Christmas concert. (It's a private school with a small student population).

I live in Atlantic Canada and look forward to reading more on this board.

Thank you! I am enjoying myself so far and very happy with how beautiful the flute sounds even at this beginning stage. I've always been a multi-instrument enthusiast, but the flute seems to be magnetic for me. (I play piano, guitar, ukulele, and in high school played clarinet) So I look forward to what lies ahead with more experience.

Welcome. I am also a late learner (I'm 53) and I'm finding flute the hardest instrument to learn so far!
You can make beautiful music on an ugly flute
