Hello Everybody
My name is Paul. I am an experienced saxophone player who plays lead alto in a local big band. We often have charts that call for me to play flute. I transpose them to my alto, but it would be nice to play them on the instrument intended by the arranger. I also really like the flute. Beautiful tone, agile, can be used in a variety of genres. So here I am, a flute rookie.
I bought a used Yamaha YFL-221 that had been serviced and is in excellent playing condition. It suits my needs for now. I am taking online lessons. It's been about three weeks and I am making progress. Amazed at how much air a flute takes! Just starting to get over feeling dizzy all the time.
I look forward to interacting and learning from all you experienced flutists, (or flautists, if you prefer).

Re: New to the Forum and the Flute
Welcome to the forum!
You'll find there are are few of us here who play more than just the flute. I too, started on Sax and later added clarinet and flute. After 8 years of private study on the flute with a local symphony flutist, I'm as strong or stronger on flute than I am on sax. I would urge you to get some private instruction and you will progress much faster. The Yamaha is a great flute to start with.
I also play sax (usually bari or alto) in a big band and add the clarinet and flute for some charts.
