Hello! I have been playing the flute off and on since I was 10 years old (40+ Years)...took lessons for many years. I am planning to buy a flute that will be a step up for me and have my eyes on a Yamaha 577 HCT/LPGP. I went to a store in my area and they were wonderful to let me try many flutes out. However, they want nearly $1,000 more than from the Flute Center of New York. Does anyone have any dealings with this store? Also, if you are familiar with the Yamahas, should I get the 677 instead? I have not tried it, though..so am unsure of if there are any big differences? Thank you for any help.
Michelle

Re: Buying a Step Up Flute
As far as I can tell, the 577 has a solid silver headpiece, whereas the 677 is all solid silver.
It takes a little while to navigate Yamaha's pages. They call their 500-700 series "professional flutes". My YFL372H is a step-up flute!
