flute help

its been years since i played the flute, so I just bought a cheaper one to start off with, but i've been trying for hours and cant seem to get d,e, or f working, every other note i can do great, given i havent played in years, does it sound like something could be wrong with my flute ?

Though you haven't played in years, this is somewhat like that bike-riding adage-you likely haven't forgotten. While tone and flexibility might be quite less than optimal, the flute should at least respond. Get this to a repairman ASAP. Be aware, if this is one of those unbelievably-inexpensive Chinese wonders, many repair shops can't get parts for them, and the metal is so soft, many techs are reluctant to heat or manipulate it for fear of breaking the keys. If your flute is a reputable brand, but used and out-of-shape, an overhaul or repad may make it almost good-as-new.

the i got is called a barrington, is that an ok brand ?

This brand is sold by www.wwbw.com and is a decent starter instrument. You may have to send send back the first one you get though. I have a barrington Pic, and it plays and sounds great.
