I plan to start learning flute.
Which instrument should I buy (I can't afford a $2000 model )
On this forum, I have read about Yamaha 211 or Armstrong 104.
Another web site mentioned the Armstrong 200-E.
Other suggestions ? What's the most used beginner model ?
These flutes are all great choices (though I know little about the Armstrong 200-E). As for which is most popular, it strongly depends on where you are. I have found that Yamaha's are a bit more expensive here, making the Armstrong more popular of the two.
These are both excellent choices! Just go for it!!!!!!!!!! I'm not sure of the intruments' availability in your area, but lots of online dealers sell both brands. We sell a lot of Armstrongs around here, but Yamaha may be more easily serviced or repaired in the future if you are in Europe (internationally, anywhere).
I highly recommend a Trevor James model 10x2. It's what i started out on. They're great for beginners (and were designed FOR beginners) and also very reasonably priced. Here's the link from Fluteworld:
I think the most reliable student flutes are yamaha's. but you really don't need a yamaha if you're just starting out. Just don't get a Gemeinhardt because it's impossible for you to get out a decent one on one. I've tried 2 of their flutes and the sound was really stuffy and airy. Armstrongs are good also, that was my first flute, it was my aunt's flute. It's lasted so far for about 20 years.
