Flute Repair Supplies

Post by piccylo789 »

Anybody know of any good places to get flute
repair tools and supplies?... im having trouble finding an online provider and
my local music stores refuse to sell them to me because "they would prefer to do
the repairs"... but when they repair it...its never fixed properly... i know how
to fix it usually and if i dont...my friend definatly can...if he has the
tools... so wrecking my instrument isnt a concern... my band director already
has me fixing the flutes in the band...and if i cant fix them he automatically
sends them out because he trusts that it cant be done without other tools... if
anyone knows of a place to get these things...that would be great! <<Piccy

I'm no expert on fixing flutes, so I have no
idea exactly what kind of tools you need. The only thing I find useful is a set
of small screwdrivers, which you can purchase at pretty much any hardware store.
You might also check at a hardware store for the other tools you need.[:)] On
that note, does anyone have any idea who offers classes on repairing
instruments? I have no idea where to even begin looking for someone who offers
such a class.
Haha, this one is my favorite:

I would suggest JL Smith for buying necessary
tools, I haven't personally checked to see what all he sells, but I hear he has
quite a selection. His website is flutesmith.com In terms of learning flute
repair that is Jonathan Landell who offers classes and his website is
landellflutes.com. Also there's a website yourfluteworks.com which is owned by
Ann Pollack and she also teaches an Emergency flute repair class if you're in a
bind in a situation it pretty much teaches you what to do. I've never taken
either of the classes, but I hope that gives you a place to start at least.

I was just looking through a Muramatsu price list
they sent me today and found that they sell pad sets for $25 (I don't buy pads
so I have no clue if that's a good deal or bad deal or anything) but I just
wanted to point it out. Their acessories price list (found at
http://www.muramatsu-america.com/m_acc.htm) also says they sell other repair
parts.

ships the items throughout the country. They are called MUZET. If you want to
see if you can get the supplies online, go to muzet.com, they should be able to
help you.
