Just a month or so ago I decided to pick up the flute again as a hobby. I played flute for 7 years back in grade school-high school....but that was 20 years ago...yikes!

I have been practicing about an hour a day since I bought a new flute a couple of weeks ago....more hours on the weekend

4) Do you play any other instruments?

No My 16yo son wanted me to learn to play the guitar instead of the flute again. I didn't think I would have the patience anymore to learn a new instrument from scratch.

5) Tell us something non-music related about you?

I'm a perfume fanatic. I love fragrances, wearing them, smelling them, shopping for them, reading fragrance blogs and message boards, swapping hard to find samples with fellow frag addicts

I am currently a Flute Performance Major at Eastern Kentucky University

2) How many years have you played?

I have been Playing over eight years on Flute, and over four years on Piccolo.

3) How often and how long do you practice?

I try to practice at least 1.5 hours a day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. It really depends on my schedule and upcoming gigs.

4) Do you play any other instruments?

Yes, I play the Lever Harp (Celtic/ Non-pedal Harp). I have been playing the harp for three years. If you need a harpist for a gig in central Kentucky, send me a message!

I also play the baroque recorder, the irish pennywhistle, the indian flute, piano (by ear), and I once tried the violin (it hurt my ears). I also PLAY the software program Finale 2006. I write music, and it plays all of the instruments for me (I write duets and trios, an ensembles for all sorts of instruments, and full bands/orchestras)

5) Tell us something non-music related about you?

I love books and movies. Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings are in my opinion the best mixture of the two genres (both books and films). My favorite books are Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, Ender's Shadow, A series of unfortunate events, the davinci code, Memoirs of a Geisha, the witches of eileannan (series), the banned and the banished (series), a prayer for owen meany, and the list goes on.

My favorite movies are of course Harry Potter, and LOTR, and Raise Your Voice (I always wanted to go to a summer music program, so this is the closest i could get), V for Vendetta, Finding Neverland, Memoirs of a Geisha, Click, The Lord of the Rings Symphony (I got it on DVD), The butterfly effect, and again, the list goes on.[/b]

piano (8 years. i am pretty good at it, but flute takes precedence now) and a tiny bit of picc (only when i have to. i don't own one).. i would love to play bassoon. and i played violin at one point for about two days(i was scared of my teacher)

I am a semi-professional. I am only associated with people who invite me to play. I also Arrange, compose, and produce music for others. I play mostly Jazz/Rock/Fusion/Brazilian/Latin style music.

I tend to procrastinate so usually an hour a day or so during band camp and then half an hour normal days until I get the music memorized... but other than that really only whenever I need to in order to keep playing the music well. How do you people fit 3 or 4 hours of practice into ONE DAY!?

I've been learning American Sign Language for 4 years now and can easily carry on a conversation with another person who knows sign language.

High school student going after a performance major in college (I'm going into my senior year now) . . . so lots of college shopping/audition preparation at the moment! I have also started my career as a private teacher in the community for beginner-intermediate students.

2) How many years have you played?

Flute, only 3 . . . but I've been a musician for about 9 years. I was a dreadful violin player until I finally decided to try flute out in 9th grade . . . and I've been working my butt off on flute ever since. Something just clicked with the flute.

3) How often and how long do you practice?

Every day . . . 4-5 hours.

Just a piccolo doubler, and trying to get into piano . . . but I'd only really consider myself a flutist. I quit violin because I was just too bad at it to continue!

I really love Chemistry. I want to minor/double major in Chemistry so I will always have something to fall back on in case music doesn't quite work out as well as I hope it will. I also love reading and traveling. Yes, I'm a geek haha.

I'm a flute major in University. I'm going into the second year of my music degree, though my third year of university. I've also started working on some arrangements and compositions for flute and piano, since my focus in school is on theory and composition.

Um... about 8 years now I think.

Depends on the day. I try to get in at least an hour a day, even on days when I'm super busy. But normally about a couple hours.

I play piano and guitar. I've been playing piano for about 15/16 years now, and I was planning on majoring in that instead, but I changed my mind. Mostly because piano is such a competitive instrument to get in for, and unless I was a virtuoso I probably wouldn't get in. Also, I don't get the same feeling from piano that I do from playing the flute. I'm a lot more instinctual and expressive on the flute. And I've played guitar recreationally for about 3 1/2 years.

5) Tell us something non-music related about you?

I adore 90s sitcoms. Particularly the Fresh Prince of Bel Air

I don't practice anymore in the usual sense. However, I often play -- usually several times a week for an hour or so -- for my own enjoyment.

Not as much as I'd like. In college, four to six hours daily. Teaching, working, and being a real adult, kind of on an "as-needed" basis, though I play at least an hour almost daily.

Piano was my first instrument, but I neglect it a bit--don't have much technique. I began playing bassoon as a college freshman, and later clarinet and sax, but noticed these really exacted a toll on good flute tone and flexibility. Bassoon is cool, though.

I cook! Mostly Italian foods, though I'm NOT. I recently mastered asparagus risotto.
