FLuteguy18, so did you go, and if so how was it?
I'm reading about this years convention in NY where Galway et. al are trying to break the record for the largest flute ensemble ever. Sounds like fun.
Looks like the 2010 convention will be in Anaheim, California which is close enough for hubby to drive ... I could go to the convention while he goes to Disneyland.
But I still wonder if there is enough things for a 53yr old amateur to do?
Most of the playing opportunites are for Masterclasses, something that I could not qualify for.

Yes I did go! It was a BLAST! I just wish I could go again this year.
I drove out there with my two flute teachers, and we were there for 4 days (or maybe it was 3... I don't remember). It was amazing. I could have spent the entire convention in the showroom alone! I got to meet a lot of famous flutists. I got to play for a few of them as well (Leone Buyse for example).
I walked a lot, learned a lot, met and got to know several new people over dinner (one evening one of the Piccolo Artist Finalists, and then another evening our very own Sidekicker).
I would go again this year, but I am afraid I don't have the money. But, I plan on flying out to CA for the one next year. It will be right before my grad school auditions, and will be a good opportunity to meet a few more potential grad school teachers.

Very true. That was a charming evening, as was the company. We had a nice group of flutists at the table. I believe the night we had dinner together was the same day that I purchased my new flute.fluteguy18 wrote: I walked a lot, learned a lot, met and got to know several new people over dinner (one evening one of the Piccolo Artist Finalists, and then another evening our very own Sidekicker).
Anybody who can make it to an NFA Convention should definitely do so, IMO. It's really a unique experience. Not only can you meet live with some of our friends here (as Fluteguy and I did), but there is just so much to take in. You will certainly not be bored.
I can't go this year, though.
