I agree kim. We
should stop this fighting (and your anagoly with the medicine and your doctor is
completely irrelvant) I also think that she made a good point by saying that
newflute made the right decision for her and was not asking you to tell her
about her Besler. Now this better be the last of the fighting or new flute is
going to leave because we're not helping her at all...

The problem is
not just how long it will last but if it will play at all. You may think you are
doing things wrong but in fact its just the flute is no good. You really need a
teacher to tell you if your mistakes are you or the flute. Not the easiest way
to learn. This isn't written to embarass Marcia for buying an inexpensive
flute. It is written to inform her that she may struggle in learning to play
because of the flute she chose. It informs what she was not aware of, that an
inexpensive flute may not only not last as long or be able to be repaired but
may not be able to be played correctly. Further I was not saying she should have
a Cadilac nor does my daughter own one. Simply that if she turns the wheel on
her vehicle and it doesn't turn the corner it may not be her fault and prevent
her from learning to drive correctly. I have no desire to argue just exchange
ideas.

I agree kim. We
should stop this fighting I didn't know anyone was fighting. Other than the
attempt to insult and dismiss my knowledge of flutes and flute manufactures,
every other post here has been to add to the general knowledge. Oh and Marcia is
not a jr high student she is a 21 year old "professional: clarinet player.
Apparently that playing of clarinet also somehow qualified her as an expert on
flutes. So she should be mature enough to be informed that her flute chose could
provide her with road blocks to learning to play and not just in repairs down
the road, but apparently not.

---------------- [/quote] You say you are not being condescending and a bit
nasty? "somehow qualified" and "apparently not" are certainly not in my book of
helpful comments. You also seem to put an inordinate amount of importance on
playing exactly the right flute. There are no mechanics on a Hall glass flute,
yet they are played professionally quite a bit (I found out about them from a
recording artist at a Harp convention - a bit roundabout). You can get some
INCREDIBLE sound out of a PVC flute - depending on the type of music you are
playing. Perhaps, if you are truly trying to help people, you should try to be a
bit less authoritative in your responses. Most folks can't hear the message if
they get too angry. The reason there are so many different manufacturers of
flutes, are because we are all different. And isn't that wonderful? This post
always mentions Galway as King. I was listening to a Jean Pierre Rampal
recording today that brought tears to my eyes (Handel's Largo - I'm not sure
which one). And Matt Molloy of the Chieftans completely "rocks my socks". There
is room for a wide range of styles/tones/players in this world. Let's keep
supporting all of them! Cate

Penny~ I could go
round and round with you in respect to opinions and freedom of speech and not
apologizing when one believes that they are right...LOL I have done that before
haven't I ? I watched this same kind of story play out in another flute group
before you were asked to leave that group because members were being offended. I
know that it is best just to agree to disagree with you. I only just joined this
thread because I hate to see a flute player get discouraged before they have
even ran into a problem. 1)Marcia NEVER claimed to be an expert. 2)Marcia NEVER
asked for an opinion on her Bestler. 3)Marcia did NOT mention any problems she
was having with her flute yet. I am now removing myself from any further
comments in this thread. Kim P.S Marcia if you are reading this thread. I am
hoping that you will continue to post here and not be discourage by all this
nonsense.

Ok I won't post
anymore. I was just trying to share information. Many people have thanked me,
but some apparently are offended when one persons information differs from
something they heard elsewhere. So best of luck to you all, no hard feelings.

Your knowledge
may have been good but she never asked you that question so randomly spouting
useless knowledge will not help anyone she is asking for help playing the flute
and looking for friends who play the flute she is not trying to tell you shes an
expert
