Wish I new more!!!!!!

I am looking at open-hole flutes for the coming years. I need
a flute that has the best sound, since I often have trouble with that. I really

Judging from the date of your post, you could have easily already bought a new flute. However, in case you have not, I highly recommend Yamaha flutes. Of course, if you are looking to pay big bucks. There are other great brands out there too. I just think Yamaha makes a great flute for a great price. - Terri

well I would say yamaha. In the past I have been a firm believer in gemeinhardt but as I advance, a yamaha, I think would have done a much better job.

Yamaha's tend to suit everyone - other flutes out there you have to literally bond with for it to work - like Altus, and others, but Yamaha's are definitely the way to go

Yes, Yamahas are good, but keep in mind that not everyone likes them - my friend, for example, says she sounds better on Armstrong.

A word of advice to all flute buyers: try as many name brands as you can. All flutists are different, as are all flutes, so try many to find the one that best suits you.

Good brands to try: Yamaha, Armstrong, Pearl, Trevor James, Dean Yang (tend to be more expensive), Powell (also more expensive), and I've seen a lot of flutists with Gemeihardt, but I didn't like the tone at all when I tried it, and from what I've seen, not many people on this board like it either.... but hey, maybe it'll work for you
