I finally found my threshold.
played saxophone pretty exclusively for a month and then
popped in late to rehearsal tonight in a band where I play flute..
ouch!...
so be warned.. it took me an hour or so to sound like my old
self again..
I think not practicing flute for a month probably had a more deleterious effect on your flute playing than playing saxophone during that time did. Of course, when you have a lot of instruments to keep up, it's very hard to devote enough time to each of them.
I am a flutist, but I also play tuba and sax. It takes a lot of practice but I'm 1st chair as a flutist, 3rd chair tuba, and 6th chair sax. I love it!!! I'm trying to get my band director to let me play the french horn. He says to sharpen up on the sax first.
And say, ha

Tell me I'm an angel,
Take this to my grave.

you sound like my son...
he's doing piano, clarinet, sax and flute to go along with various and
sundry folk instruments that are laying about the livingroom..
He's trying very hard to convince me to let him get a brasswind of
some kind to round things out.

true enough.. but never was an issue in the past.. maybe I'm just
gettin old and complacent..
it is true though, that keeping your chops up on many instruments
can be time consuming in the extreme.

It is my goal to learn as many instruments as possible before I graduate.

I got this "crazy idea" one day during rehersal that I wanted to learn to play the french horn...We have one sitting unused in the back of the bandroom...I have yet to prusuade my director to let me take it.
