Yamaha 614 vs Sonarè 605 vs Altus

Post by Beatrice82 »

Hello to all,

having decided to upgrade my Yamaha 311 with a new flute, at the price range that I can afford , I tried three new ones: a Yamaha YFL614 , a Powell-Sonarè 601 and an 904 Altus and a used one: an Altus 1007. All four flutes were about the same price.
I must say that during the test I was more comfortable with the Yamaha, but I think probably because I came from another Yamaha. The headjoint of Powell Sonare gave me some problems at first, but with the passing of time I liked it more and more ... Between the two Altus I did not notice a huge difference, perhaps maybe the head was very similar if not the same.
I do not know in long-terms what might be the best choice, they all seemed good flutes ... But in addition to having a good sound I want my new flute is very sturdy and does not make me crazy with continuous adjustments: I do not go very light on the keys and there are no adjusters near my home.
I expect advice and opinions from those who have had experiences with flutes in object.
Thank you and Happy New Year.

If you like the Yamaha, get it. YFL600 series Yamahas are great flutes. They are also a good step up from the YFL311.

What you like, and feel comfortable with is the point. Frankly, you could not go wrong with any of these choices. It is all a matter of preference.
