Solid Silver Flutes

Post by MagicFlutePlayer »

I recently put Gemeinhardt 3b flute with a gold-plated lip plate on layaway believing that the head was solid silver, but I'm starting to second guess myself and I think it's only silver plated. Would they put a gold lip plate on a silver plated flute? It's really nice. Please respond, I'm freaking out.

Gold plating Non silver headjoint lip plates is not uncommon. Just flick the tenon with your finger. If it Pings and rings out, it's Plated. If it goes thunk, it's silver...

The 3B model is a silver plated headjoint. Gold lip plating is an option...

Have you played the gemeinhardt?

As there is no much variation between different headjoints, you may find a silver-plate headjoint with a certain cut/alloy suit you more than a different all-silver headjoint.

Okay, I wasn't sure about gold plating on a silver plated instrument. The guy who sold it to us made the mistake of falsely advertising it, he was okay with giving us our money back. Since then my parents and I found a Sonaré SF-5000. It has a solid silver headjoint, B-foot, split E mechanism and it's off-set and open-holed. We got it for $650. The only thing I'm not sure of is if the body is also silver or if it's just silver plated. Any way for me to find out?
