One is a vintage Gemeinhardt M3 S open hole all solid silver with custom J head joint, totally and perfectly overhauled and brought back to new condition by a retired Gemeinhardt tech.
The other is a brand new Di Zhao dz-300 open hole silver plated flute. I can get any of these two for more or less the same amount (well, $100.00 more for the new Di Zhao).
Thanks for your opinion !
Whatwould you choose between these two flutes ?

Pretty much a wash in my opinion. Just play on them and see which one you like the best.gerardo1000 wrote:One is a vintage Gemeinhardt M3 S open hole all solid silver with custom J head joint, totally and perfectly overhauled and brought back to new condition by a retired Gemeinhardt tech.

Play them both ... spend time in each octave and get a feel for how the flute "speaks" for you - particularly the higher and lower notes. Play through your recent studies/pieces and see how the flute responds for you. More importantly - take your time. There will be other flutes if these don't suit you ... you are going to be together for hopefully hours every week so you need to choose one that you love and not just the closest to you.
We all play differently, and a flute that suits me you may find you simply hate.
