Cases

Post by kflutist »

So in happiness, I just got my new flute. Much rejoicing. On the other hand, I play both flute and piccolo and currently only have a double case for my picc and the new flute doesn't fit into the double because it has a b foot and my old one has a c foot. So my question how do I go about getting an individual case for the equivalent of a Gemienhardt 4S piccolo? Please if anyone could help.

You most likely can find one on eBay, or you could splurge and buy a new double case (with room for a B foot). Most cases built for a metal picc should be able to hold it (though how secure it would be in a case from another maker will vary depending on the case's and piccolo's dimensions). You might even consider contacting the Gemeinhardt company and seeing if you could purchase direct from them. There's also the option of modifying your current double case so that it can hold a B foot (how feasible this is will depend on the case itself and how it's built). Just out of curiosity, what happened to the case that the piccolo came with? Or did you buy it used without a case?

Anyway, congratulations on the new flute! What kind did you purchase, and how do you like it so far?

I am sure that if you called, you could probably get advice as to which case would fit you picc the best.

Hope this helps!

The piccolo was passed down to me from a family member as a gift, it came with only the double case so I have no idea what happened to the original, but I'm not really going to question it. As for the new flute, its a Jupiter 711RBSO. It was used gently for a year and fit perfectly into my extremely limited budget. It's definitely different from my old Oldes NA77S and I really like it. Its sound is so much purer and fuller. It really fits where I'm at.

Ahh! That makes sense, then! Well from the looks of it, you have several options for replacing the case, so that shouldn't be too hard.

And that's awesome that you found a flute you're so happy with! Congratulations again! It's always exciting to have a new instrument!

It may be a budget buster for you, but you could always have a custom case made. That way there will not be any fit problems. Plus, you can have whatever type of case suits your needs. The place I would highly recommend for that is Northwind Cases, www.northwindcases.com. I've had him make two custom cases for me (one for flute, the other to hold two heads), and have no regrets.

Again, it's not the cheapest alternative. But you will absolutely get what you want/need and the quality will be very high.

Just a thought. Good luck.

That's certainly a possibility, SK, but I think it would be best to save such a large expense until you have an instrument that you plan to play for years to come. I don't know where Kflutist is in the progression of upgrades, or if (s)he is done, and plans to keep the equipment they have for a good long time, but if they should change in the future, a custom case made for their current equipment may not work for whatever they upgrade to. Just something to think about, but it's probably best to save such a large purchase until one is done upgrading.
