How many play flute and another instrument?
I have seen and heard many flute and sax players , are there any other interesting combinations?
Re: How many play flute and another instrument?
My main/best instruments are Flute/Picc and Guitar. I also play Saxophone, Bass and Piano. I also arrange/compose.
I am not as active professionally as I use to be, but still practice daily on my best instruments and piano.

Re: How many play flute and another instrument?
I can play publicly the flute family, recorders etc, piano, handbells (including soloing), mallets.
I can play privately the organ, ukulele (but picked rather than strummed), clarinet. Although if my church was desperate, I could manage an embarrassing organ for them.
edit to add that I also arrange/transcribe music for flute, flute quartet, piano, and bells. And I've arranged two songs for concert band, which I'm REALLY proud to have accomplished!

Re: How many play flute and another instrument?
We must stop being multi instrumentalists , as generations of people never get a look in ! Next we'll be talking about I.A S [instrument acquisition syndrome}
Re: How many play flute and another instrument?
I do some guitar strumming, banging of the keys on the piano and somewhat play the flute. I came to the flute late in life (64 years old at the time) and started learning how to play for health reasons since I've got issues that prevent me from running and doing other cardio "stuff". It was a real challenge in the beginning just playing for five minutes but slow with consistent practice there has improvement. So I've realized a two fold blessing, really learning how to play an instrument and improvement in my respiratory health.

Re: How many play flute and another instrument?
I can play just about any flute you throw at me, but particularly piccolo, flute, and the low flutes.... The entire recorder family (Sopranino through Bass), Irish flute, etc....
I'm also a harpist...
As for IAS (Instrument Acquisition Syndrome), I don't have to worry about that. Instead I have it's more deadly cousin, IMS (Instrument Making Syndrome). Between making piccolos, I've also made any number of folk flutes and irish harps. I also have designs for flutes of various types, irish harp designs.... so many things and yet too little time! Ha!

I think that has to be right up there with organ for difficulty in learning how to play.
Too bad I didn't know about your IMS, I'd have inquired what you might've charged to make a treble.

Re: How many play flute and another instrument?
Same here.. Flute was my first instrument, but I set it down for about 25 years and concentrated on guitar. These days, I play guitar, flute, bass, piano, and percussion. Sadly, I rarely touch the piano these days, but I do try to record something with a combination of instruments weekly.
Re: How many play flute and another instrument?
I have played several instruments over the years. I started out with piano did that for three years, then I switched to guitar did that for seven years. Overlapping with guitar I sang with church choir and municipal choirs. I took up the violin at 24. Took lessons for three years and played violin in a community orchestra for 20 years. Then I took up the flute and have been playing flute in a local flute choir organization for ten years now. All of it has been an enriching experience in my life. I was semi- professional - getting paid for parties, weddings, receptions etc. Never went fully professional because I felt that if music became my "job" it would suck all the fun out of it !!! I loved playing all those instruments but the flute - I think - has been the most enjoyable !

I have a local friend who is a harpist. I never knew how versatile that instrument is!
Oh man.. I would LOVE to hear more about instrument making! As for IAS (Instrument Acquisition Syndrome), I don't have to worry about that.
