Back pain?

I'm not sure if it's from the stress from playing or holding my flute wrong. Lately I've been getting this pain in the upper-left portion of my back after rehersals, which usually last from 1 to 2 and a half hours. A friend of mine (who is in everything I'm in) is feeling the same thing.

Anyone else ever feel this?

I haven't had that problem UNLESS I've been playing a straight alto. Perhaps you need to deliberately go through some relaxation exercises before playing (and maybe during!). Sounds like you might be tensing up.

Also, if you are a tiny person, you might consider a curved headjoint for your flute.

Just some ideas.
