Low notes....

Post by concertpianist16 »

I've been having a hard time playing low notes. And I've heard that it's harder to hit the lower notes. But I'm a perfectionist and I pick up instruments so quickly. Maybe instead of giving tips it would be easier to send a picture or upload a video on youtube.com so I can see it because I'm self taught. Thanks.
I play:
Piano
Organ
Clarinet
Flute
Recorder
Penny Whistle
Harmonica
Jaw Harp
Cello
Violin
Guitar
Mandolin
Ukulele

Well, one thing that will help is to possibly take a lesson or two from a good flute teacher. I dabble in a lot of instruments myself, although flute and guitar are my main instruments. Low notes are just one of those things about playing flute that come with time, or someone helps you to learn. No magical way around it.

One thing you should do is start from the lowest note, and work your way down. Start from low D, then slur down to low C/B. Eventually it will become easier over time.

Also, besure your flute is in good playing condition. If you are using an openhole make sure you are covering the holes properly when you play. Leaks will definitely make it difficult to play the lower notes on a flute.

I am sure others will give you a few pointers as time goes along.
