Music Every Flute Player SHould Have

So I am going to college in the fall as a flute player and music ed major and I am looking to enhance my musical library before I go off to school and I am looking for suggestions of what people feel are some of the best and most important pieces for a good flute player to have.

That sounds like a good question for your new professor. I'm sure he or she would be delighted that you are taking the initiative to start learning some pieces on your own. Most teachers do have of certain pieces they want every student to learn sometime during their course of study.

Favorite pieces of professors can vary considerably, so I wouldn't go hog wild buying a lot of music that you may or may not use while studying. Many music schools have a repertoire list. Check your college web site to see if might be there. If not, do a Google search for "Flute repertoire" and then just check out the ones that lead to a .edu or specifically mention a flute school at a university.

That said, one that I would recommend is a collection:
"Flute Music by French Composers" edited by Louis Moyse

It has 10 pieces by highly respected flute composers such as Gaubert, Taffanel, Chaminade, Faure, Ganne, and others. It's hard to go wrong with that one because you can probably use more than one of these during your studies. And the price is very reasonable - only $12.95!

I entirely agree with the already given advice. But, if I were to recommend music to look into, I would recommend looking into buying:

Mozart Concerti [both G and D Major]
A collection of the Telemann Fantasies
And a collection of Bach Sonatas. Preferably those in E flat major and B minor.

These all seem to be relatively standard repertoire. Definitely the Mozart Concerti. But, your professor might have specific editions that they prefer. So, if I were you, I would ask your professor what he/she recommends buying.

JS Bach IV Bouree Angloise Partita on 8notes is free do download
i'm trying that out well stumblying upon as its quite hard well for me anyway.
Seal Kiss from a Rose search my posts you will find it love that song.

Also another i'm trying to play at the moment again free is "Variations on a swedish folk tune for solo flute" by Herbert Lindholm on his site wish I could remember the link has flutistis playing his work so you know how it shuld be played. love his music. But again think thats too advanced for me i'm lost when it speeds up. Could give those a try. For me I just need to practice practice practice.
^^^^^^^ I know these songs aren't as famous as others but are fun to play.

Edit:- everyone seems to have or want to play J tull Bouree good song another I wish I could play fluently.

Everyone can we have a list for this thread add your own in order, but state arist and music piece and or link to music and sheet music where applicable Else you are gonna have replies like Bach all of his music rather than selected pieces.
