Hi all
I thinking of upgrading my Boheme flute from the Yamaha 281 to something higher and was wondering if the experienced members of this forum could help me choose a good upgrade.
I usually prefer Yamaha since I've been using them on other instruments for nearly four decades but I'm open to other makers if you think I should (maintenance and quality of build are highest on the agenda). I was thinking of the 381 or the 481 ? As you can see I'm not exactly an expert flute player.
Where is the best place to buy ? are there discount stores on the net like in the acoustic guitar market (30% off MSRP)???
Thanks
HS

IMHO the 300 and 400 series Yamahas are not much of an upgrade over the 200 series - essentially the same flute in terms of headjoint and mechanism but with progressively more silver content which makes a surprisingly small difference to the sound.
If you want to upgrade and stick with Yamaha then you should start looking at the 500 series - different headjoint cut and better mechanism.
A lot also depends on what you want to do with your flute playing. If you play for a hobby only you may want to consider sticking with the 281 and think about upgrading the headjoint only.

Actually thats a very good idea .. I'm just an after-work hobbyist ... will look for a silver headjoint .... I hope I'd find a yamahakiwiflute wrote:A lot also depends on what you want to do with your flute playing.
