Greetings everyone,
Just wanted to stir up some discussion about thoughts on digital wind instruments. I never really gave a digital wind any thought until the launch of Yamaha's digital saxophone. It looks pretty awesome and the functionality of it seems incredible (adjustable volume, small size, change of key, change of sound, recording). However, what I like best about playing the flute is the learning of the embouchure and the change in my tone quality over the years that I have played. I'm a casual player and not great (my wife who is pretty good likes to remind me of that), but I really enjoy the fact that I had to work hard to be able to play it and when I play some earlier pieces from my flute journey I remember how I couldn't play certain parts, or notes of it. With the digital instrument you just blow and get a perfect tone from my understanding. While I thought I would really want the YDS, more I think about it I don't think the functionality of it outweighs the fact that it cuts corners with making music. Thoughts?
