My flute is tarnished and dont know why.

My flute is tarnished and dont know why.
I put some lip balm before playing like 5 minutes and after I was finish praticing (30mins), there was a black line following my lips on the flute. What should I do to fix the flute? Take it to a shop or is there something I can apply to it?
