Flute Talk Magazine

Post by kimberlyneudorf »

Has anyone subscribed to Flute Talk Magazine before? http://www.theinstrumentalist.com/magazine-FluteTalk/

I haven't found much info about it online concerning what is in it exactly. Is this magazine helpful for teachers or does it have lessons and tips for students and performers? Is it mostly filled with advertising or articles?

If you subscribed to the magazine in the past was it worth it?

Thanks for the tips and insight in advance!

Flute Talk is like any other magazine. There are articles and there are ads. The ad content is on par with other magazines. The articles are pretty good. It usually features an article about a flutist - sometimes well known, sometimes not. There are regular columns by Patricia George who writes informative articles about playing and teaching the flute. Michel Debost is one of the editors and is a regular contributor with articles appearing several times each year. Flute Talk is geared toward high school and college flutists but there is good info for teachers too. If I recall correctly, the subscription is $10 per year for individuals but teachers can get multiple copies (for their students) for $7/year per student. So, yes, it's a bargain for the price.

I LOVE this magazine. I have a 3 year subscription and I read it every month. It almost always has at least one article worth keeping, and if you keep them, your collection will be a vast wealth of knowledge to look to in the future. My University has over 20 years of FluteTalk Magazines, and I am in the process of photocopying them all.
