cleaning cloth questions!! help.

Post by kmshesko »

So...I've had this cloth I've used to clean my flute for awhile and my flute teacher noticed it was a cotton/polyester cloth and that it could scratch the inside of my flute.

So, what kind of cloth should I get? I've seen silk cloths (I use this kind for my wooden piccolo) and 100% cotton, and probably a couple others? Is there an advantage of one over the other?

What about for keeping the outside looking nice? I have a polishing cloth for plated instruments that I picked up at a music store, but I'm afraid that it might be abrasive.

Any suggestions?

If it turns dark when it is used, then it is abrasive. As for a swab cloth, a silk cloth, or a gauze-type cloth is what I used. I now use a flute flag, and don't have the need for a swab cloth.
