question!

Post by falling4ever_3 »

I was just wondering... what is the purpose of a b-foot? (i
think that that''s what it''s called)... I have a c-foot (one with 2 holes,
and total of 3 keys, 1 roller)... I have heared that with the b-foot you are
able to get down to low b, instead of the usual low c... What else does it do?
Can you reach higher notes easier? Anything else? And could i purchase just a
b-foot with out having to buy a whole nothing flute just for 1 note? Well
thanks, - falling4ever_3

Yes That is the simple answer. It plays a note lower and
supposedly makes the higher notes sound better. More complicated answer is that
many professionals play C flutes, so don't think a B foot is a must. Simply a
more flexible option for someone that will only own 1 flute. You rarely need
that low B and there are weight and dollar considerations. All that said my
personal recommendations is to get your flute with the B foot unless your
teacher is advising you to get the C. If you are talking a student flute a C
foot is clearly fine. If you are talking a step up that you want to last you for
many years B foot is probably the smarter decision.
