2011 Florida Flute Convention

Post by SaxyShanny »

I can't believe it's been almost a year already since my first flute convention! Boy, I really feel I have come a long way in my flute playing abilities, and it sure has been an interesting year!

SO!! Anyone else attending this year?

See you there!

I'm not attending the one in Florida, but I'm attending one in KY in a week.

I use to go to flute conventions till my old flute teacher died. Now every time I go to one I get treated with the "You are an inferior jazz musician" stigma. Not to mention in Saint Louis, I was the only black man/member around a bunch of mostly teenage girls from the other neighborhood(Never quite understood that). That sat right with the parents!...not...LOL These days, I just go to the NAMM show when I can scam some tickets.

Despite the people issues, if there are a lot of vendors, you can try out some interesting instruments. Also, I use to attend the classes for flute repair as well.

Never ever got much out of the master classes except a good demonstration, a hand shake and the feeling that I do not practice enough...lol. But I guess that is the idea.

That's the one! And take a look at who the guest artist is... you can probably guess why I'm unenthusiastic about encountering the snow queen again.... She's also the reason I refused to audition for any of the competitions. She's a judge in them.
