Same topic in a another thread. First question is what is your
budget? What is your objective? In other words how much money can/will you spend
and what are looking for in flute. Answer is different at 1-2-3-5-10-25 thousand
dollars. The ones less than $2,000 are probably not going to sound all that much
better than a student flute as most of them are student flutes with more silver
content. But that is another big area for discussion. Again I suggest you look
at old threads here where this topic was previously discussed with many opinions
not just mine even though mine is right.

Hi~ It would really depend on your budget. I would suggest
taking a look at Fluteworld.com and seeing what fits your budget. That could be
a good starting point for you. We have had discussions on this list and I have
read discussions on other lists in which people say it is better to go with a
hand made flute with a solid silver head such as a Muramatsu EX or Miyazawa 201
for example...those will run you about $2700.00-$3000.00 There are a number of
people that are huge fans of Altus..they have a model that is silver plated with
just solid silver lip plate and riser and people say that they sound just as
good as a solid silver flute. They run about I believe about $2150.00 at
Fluteworld. I just recently purchased a Yamaha 561 for my daughter and there was
a $500.00 price difference between that and the Muramatsu EX and we did not hear
a $500.00 difference in sound. I would suggest trying as many flutes as you can
and decide which one gives you the sound that you want. Good Luck....flute
research is so much fun and can be quite the challenge. Kim
