Yes, may be even better and faster. Especially if you are already playing another instrument. I think the only reason children progress faster is due to the amount of time they have to practice.

Just go for it!

I have known some amazing players who didn't start until college. It takes a lot of work, but you can advance very quickly with the right teacher and set goals for yourself to stay on track.

I have taught several adult beginners over the years. The pitfalls usually happen when life gets busy (having kids, changing jobs, moving, etc.). You just have to stay consistent and keep a workable practice routine.
