Kendall,
It's a good idea to have insurance on your instruments, especially if you travel or have really valuable instruments.
You can have your instruments covered under your parent's home owner's insurance, however it only covers certain things. My wood piccolo was covered under home owner's insurance, and it cracked but that damage was not covered.
Clarion Insurance is insurance specifically for musicians. It tends to be more expensive, but if you are a NFA member I believe the rate goes down a little bit. However, Clarion does tend to be more expensive for students, and will not cover an instrument stolen out of a school locker. You should look into different options, but I think as a student the best idea is probably your parent's home owner's insurance.
Hope that helps

Thanks. I'll look into that. So I'm guessing repairs are not covered by home owners insurance if I do decide to cover it that way?

Kendall,
Unfortunately, no insurance covers general wear and tear repairs. And generally they don't repair accidental damages either.
