Hi, I'm Suzanne. I'm 15 years old and in 10th grade. I've been playing for almost seven years now. I have a silver yamaha close-holed flute which I just purchased. Anyway, I'm here because I really love my insturment but I need help learning it. I'm unfortunate because I can't afford private lessons so a lot of people are ahead of me even though I practice like crazy. I'm hoping I can learn a lot here from some more experianced players and hopefully jump up a few chairs. :D

Lauren,
Private lessons can be a very good thing. They can be very helpful especially if your band director is not a flute player. For example my daughters band director is a trumpet player...yes he can play the flute as well as all of the other instruments in the band but they are not always able to give flute specific advice the way a person can that plays flute as their main instrument.

Also you can get 1 on 1 help with specific problems that you can't get in school. Also having a private teacher who is working alone with you for lets say 1/2 hour a week gets to know your weak areas that need to be worked on when your band director just simply may not notice or have the time to work with you on.

You may be suprised at how much private lessons can help.
